Paris Gallery

I spent a couple days in Paris and saw the Louvre, Pomidou, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides, Sacre Coeur, and Moulin Rouge

My first stop in Paris was the Louvre. Here I am in front of the glass pyramid.

The Louvre

Looking out of the Louvre's main entrance.

Inside the Pyramid

The interiors were so ornate that I enjoyed them as much as the art in the museum.

Louvre Hallway

Here's another example of the interior decoration

Louvre Interior

Sometimes, I think about the Da Vinci Code and I want to kill Dan Brown.

Mona Lisa

The painting was moved into this new room just a week or so before I came. This gives you an idea of the number of people I waded through to get that previous picture (Mona Lisa is in the very center of the photo).

Venus de Milo

I get ready to the leave the comfort of the Louvre, and it starts raining…

The Rain Begins

This picture was taken as I hastened across the Champs-Elysees.

Arc de Triomphe

I was impressed by the view upon reaching the top of the spiral stairs that lead to the top of the Arc.

Champs-Elysees

I climbed to the top of the Arc de Triomphe and was rewarded with these views of Paris and the Tour Eiffel.

Eiffel Tower

Seen from the Arc.

The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower really dominates the skyline. Something like 12 tree lined boulevards radiate out from the Arc de Triomphe.

Boulevards

The beams of sunlight come through the clouds. La Defense is in the distance on the right.

La Defense

Here I am, on top of the Arc, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Geoff and the Tower

I snapped this picture and it immediately started pouring rain. So, to escape, I went up the tower to seek a little shelter.

The Eiffel Tower

From the bottom of the Eiffel Tower. I am about to start climbing up the stairs.

Looking Up

Montemartre, seen from the Eiffel Tower. You can see Sacre Coeur on the top of the hill. I stayed just below the basilica.

Montmartre

The bum on the right tried to stab someone, but the German (left) and I kind of held him back. After being thwarted, the bum cut his own forehead and is cleaning up the wound in this picture.

Knife Fight!

I ate dinner at a nearby restaurant and then came out to see the Eiffel Tower in all its glory.

Eiffel Tower at Night

A beautiful spring morning in Paris.

Notre-Dame Cathedral

Here I am outside the cathedral. I had just taken a tour of the interior, sat through mass, and took communion.

Geoff and the Notre-Dame

Modern art gallery in Paris with the pipes on the outside of the building. Blue is air, green is water, yellow is electricity, and red is elevators / escalators.

Pompidou Centre

This is one of the museum's exhibits. Really cool, definitely recommended.

Laid to rest in Les Invalides.

Napoleon's Tomb

This stained glass is in Les Invalides beside Napoleon's tomb.

Stained Glass Window

Made my way from Les Invalides up to Pigalle and checked out the Moulin Rouge.

Moulin Rouge

This is the view of Paris from on top of Montmartre. It gives me a pretty good feel for how the city looks.

Paris

Here I am climbing the steps up Montmartre to get to the Sacre Coeur.

Geoff and the Sacre Coeur

The Sacre Coeur basilica on top of Montmartre. My hostel was just a couple minutes away from here.
