England & Wales Gallery

Took trains through England and Wales. On the way I saw Salisbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Cardiff, and York.

I took a train from London to Salisbury and a bus to Stonehenge on May 6. It was clear, sunny, warm, and the surrounding countryside was beautiful.

Stonehenge

I was really sick when I made the walk around the stone circle. In fact, I coughed up blood about 5 minutes before this picture was taken. It didn't help that it was really windy, either.

Here is the city of Bath. Really awesome Georgian town in southern England.

Bath, England

Namesake of the city of Bath, the lower half of this structure was built by the Romans two thousand years ago. I drank a glass of spa water and it really helped my throat. The Bath Cathedral is in the distance.

The Roman Baths

The central park in Cardiff, the capital of Wales. The River Taff runs through it.

Cardiff, Wales

Built by the Normans in 1091. The castle was the home of the Marquess of Bute, who turned Cardiff into the world's greatest coal-exporting port. By the 1860s, the 3rd Marquess was the richest man in the world.

Cardiff Castle

This stream / decrepit moat goes around Cardiff Castle.

Castle Moat

Ridiculous choice of words. Additionally, everything is co-written in English and Welsh in Wales.

Welsh Sign

This sign is on a pier in Cardiff Harbor. I think it really speaks for itself.

No Dog Fouling

Another Welsh city with a nice riverwalk.

Newport, Wales

Straddling the border between England and Wales, Shropshire was covered in beautiful rolling hills and tranquil farms.

The city of York spread out at sunset. The York Minster is in the distance.

York, England

The medieval entrance to York still stands today.

Mickelgate

The famous medieval walls still surround York's city center. They were originally built in Roman times, and parts have been added to and rebuilt over the years.

Medieval York City Walls

The Ouse River flows through the medieval center of York.

No sign of the morning coming, you've been left on your own, like a rainbow in the dark. That's what I took away from my trip to York.

Rainbow in the York

The largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe contains over half of all the medieval stained glass in England.

York Minster

Constantine was crowned Holy Roman Emporer on this spot in 306 AD. Here I am horsing around with him.

Constantine

A famous market street in downtown York, the Shambles contains Medieval, Tudor, and Georgian buildings.

This is Durham Cathedral, shot from the window of my Edinburgh-bound train.

This is a small town I passed on the train from Newcastle to Edinburgh.

Passing along the shores of the North Sea on a train to Edinburgh.

The English Coast

Here is a little town on the coast of the very northeastern corner of England.
