Scotland Gallery

I spent a few days in Edinburgh and Glasgow, visiting the Edinburgh Castle, museums, gardens, the Royal Mile, etc

Perched atop a hill in the middle of old town Edinburgh. This was the home of Mary Queen of Scots and the birthplace of King James. It contains the Scottish crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny.

Scotland's favorite son, standing on the Royal Mile. Behind him is the High Kirk of Saint Giles.

Here's Edinburgh as it appears looking southeast from the Castle. Arthur's Seat is the peak in the distance which I climbed the next day.

Castle at Dusk

I went on a tour of Edinburgh Castle. You can kind of see here how it really dominates the high ground of the city center.

Castle Tour

This romanesque chapel was built by King David I (son of Saint Margaret) in the early 1100s and is the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh. Margaret lived in Edinburgh castle with her husband King Malcolm III in the 11th century.

St. Margaret's Chapel

I am standing in the castle's courtyard. Behind me is New Town, built largely in the 1700s, and the Firth of Forth.

Geoff and Edinburgh

I hiked around in Holyrood Park and climbed up to Arthur's Seat. From this vantage point, I could see all the way to the Scottish Highlands.

Arthur's Seat

The hills in Holyrood Park afforded really nice views of the city. The castle is on top of the hill towards the left.

I hiked along these cliffs above Holyrood Palace

Salisbury Crags

This is the Ross Fountain in the middle of the Prince's Street Gardens. It is located in a drained loch.

Edinburgh Castle

The largest city in Scotland has the River Clyde running through the downtown.

Glasgow

In Glasgow near the Saint Enoch Centre.

Bridge on the River Clyde

I took a train from Glasgow to Stranraer in southern Scotland. We passed some magnificent scenery along the way.
